As reported previously WINCAP was appointed as a "community anchor" organisation to manage and employ an Enterprise Coach as part of an initiative funded by the NW Development agency to develop an enterprise culture in 12 wards across Cheshire and Warrington. WINCAP has attracted funding for 2 1/2 years. Jane Ann Hurn took up this post on 2nd october 2008. This project has been extremely successful, with targets being met consistently.
Several BandEdge members and Connect Volunteers have gained a Duke of Edinburgh award for Skills and or Service and several Connect Volunteers have also gained V 50 awards.
WINCAP would like to say how proud they are of the many young people who have volunteered in their community. Volunteer roles range from working as a receptionist on the desk at The Edge to taking photographs and helping present the volunteer project outside the centre. YES WINSFORD, BE PROUD OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE, BE VERY PROUD INDEED!!!!
Volunteers, staff and representatives from local youth groups have completed a 20 week Youth Federation course in Youth Worker's Skills. The course also included accredited certificates in Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Emergency First Aid and NSPCC Child Protection. Two more young volunteers have embarked on a Youth Federation Youth Worker Skills course and WINCAP has been able to facilitate fifteen youth workers, including staff from Weaver Vale Housing Trust, onto a Level 2 NVQ in Youth Work free of charge!
Working in partnership with Cheshire (Gypsy and Travellers Voice) WINCAP set up a youth club for children from the Gypsy and Traveller communities. Revenue funding to employ a youth worker for this project has been secured through the Youth Opportunity Fund. The Youth Group continues to run successfully and has opened up to the wider community.
Two groups, one for young children and one for the older person, left the centre prior to WINCAP taking it on board. To ensure consistency and the presence of both these age groups in the building, WINCAP opened two new groups to replace them, which have both proved to be a resounding success.
WINCAP has been successful in its lottery bid to take over the management of the Winsford Centre in Cheviot Square. This will mean that Winsford has a genuine community centre, run by the community for the community. There is a lot of hard work and further negotiations still to be done though, especially to find finance to do up the centre. If you want to try your hand at volunteering some time, pop in and speak to one of the WINCAP crew.
