"I went on the First Aid and Health and Safety courses. I was really surprised. It wasn’t anything like school. They weren’t formal. They were laid back. You learnt but it wasn’t like a teacher student environment. They weren’t just telling you…they wanted to know your views. …The courses were free. I probably wouldn’t have gone if there had been a charge…I feel better in myself because I know what to do in an emergency. I feel confident that if there was an emergency and something went wrong I could deal with it without panicking. Being more confident as a First Aider and in Health and Safety has made me more confident and competent in supervising others.”
“I’ve thought of several things we need to consider to improve Health and Safety at our club.”
“When I did the Food Hygiene Course I learnt that I had some really bad habits! I’m much better now at organising the fridge at home, now I know how things are supposed to be stored and at what temperature. It was useful when I took charge of organising the barbeque at the duck race last year.”
“At the Team Building course I learnt how many skills my fellow trustees have got that I didn’t know about……We have all started to get to know each other better, to identify our various strengths and weaknesses and how we can start to work together.”
“The Certificate in Community Volunteering gave me the opportunity to have the work I do as a volunteer acknowledged. It’s really important that volunteers are valued and acknowledged for their efforts. If you’re looking for employment or haven’t worked for a few years your skills have been logged.”
“I’m passionate about volunteering. The Certificate in Community Volunteering is valuable for anyone involved in volunteering. There’s always things to learn! I learnt a lot about policies and procedures… and to value my own work as a volunteer. I learnt that I was an anorak giving over most of my life to volunteering. Doing the training gave me an opportunity to step back and see what it was I was trying to achieve instead of trying to do everything. I’ve become more choosey about what I do. This means that I’m more focussed and see projects through to the end.”
“The Community Buildings course was an excellent two days run by a first class trainer. The trainer knew the subject inside out and was able to present some fairly complex issues in a clear and understandable manner. The training highlighted many issues we’re likely to face as a group in the future and the trainer has proved to be an invaluable source of ongoing help and support.”
“The Funding session was educational. I’ve learnt more about how to fill in funding forms. Going to the training helps you remember things……and it was good to get away from the kids for a day …to be around other people and have some adult conversation.”
“ I really enjoyed the facilitation skills training. The trainer was great and introduced us to lots of new ways of encouraging people to have their say in a group setting. It’s made me more confident about organising and running focus groups and community consultation exercises.”
“ The Passion Finder day was really good for me. It was just the right thing at the right time. I was quite unhappy at the time and felt I’d let myself down. The day inspired me to go on and develop myself more. It boosted my confidence at a time I felt I’d lost myself a bit. The course reaffirmed for me that life is what you make it. If you want to make it difficult it will be difficult.”
“ Attending the Passion Finder session got me moving! It made me think about what I really want to do and helped me see some of the obstacles I’d been putting in the way. It’s given me a lot to think about! I’m clearer about my goals in life and I’m making steps now to make changes for the better.”
"I've wanted to do an NVQ or similar in Youth Work for absolutely ages, but not been able to...Thank you WINCAP!"
"What would we do without you in the community to find and deliver the 'hard to find' stuff"
TESTIMONIALS:
My name is Lucas and I am 14 years old. Last summer I was given an assignment from school for my new Creativity and Media course. I wanted to thank WINCAP who let me borrow their digital camera, use the computer and have access to the internet and print my assignment and all the photos for it. Without WINCAP i just wouldn't have been able to present my tutors the quality of work they were expecting
