In August 2009, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery, WINCAP took over the management of the former Winsford Centre and renamed the building The Edge.

The Edge, situated in Denbigh Drive, is managed and staffed by local people for local people. It is a community centre in the true sense of the word.

People of all ages, abilities and from all walks of life play an active role within the Centre. Their involvement promotes personal development, self-esteem and self-confidence.

The Edge is open from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. weekdays, plus opens at weekends to cater for a variety of events and special occasions.

The use of the Centre is wide and varied, ranging from toddler groups to groups that involve elderly people. Between 200 and 300 people visit the Centre on a weekly basis and it has become a focal point for the community, bringing people into the drop-in coffee bar or the services available.

WINCAP is proud of the fact that, whenever possible, it responds to the needs of the community and works in partnership with various outside agencies to meet these needs. Our “What’s On” is evidence of this and clearly demonstrates the diversity of activities available. We really do cater “from the cradle to the grave”

The long term aim is for The Edge to become self-funding.

The WINCAP Management Board is responsible for the upkeep of the building, finding resources to pay members of staff, the recruitment and training of volunteers and for obtaining the necessary funding to run various projects and  buy essential equipment and deal with any issues. Cheshire West & Chester Council (formerly Cheshire County Council), recognising the value of the work we do, has supported WINCAP in taking over the management of the building and will continue to support and work with WINCAP on this project in the future. Without their support, this project could not have happened.

Other groups operating within the Centre are independent organisations responsible for their own staffing and procedures.
